The king responded to the people harshly. He rejected the advice of the older men

The king refused to listen to the people, because God was instigating this turn of events so that he might bring to pass the prophetic announcement he had made through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam son of Nebat.

The plans of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.

Starting a quarrel is like letting out water; stop it before strife breaks out!

Woe to you, O land, when your king is childish, and your princes feast in the morning!

Who knows if he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will be master over all the fruit of my labor for which I worked so wisely on earth! This also is futile!

The end of a matter is better than its beginning; likewise, patience is better than pride.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfishness in your hearts, do not boast and tell lies against the truth.

They have tails and stingers like scorpions, and their ability to injure people for five months is in their tails.

Then out of the smoke came locusts onto the earth, and they were given power like that of the scorpions of the earth.

The locusts were not given permission to kill them, but only to torture them for five months, and their torture was like that of a scorpion when it stings a person.
