“The man, the lord of the land, spoke harshly to us and treated us as if we were spying on the land.

When Joseph saw his brothers, he recognized them, but he pretended to be a stranger to them and spoke to them harshly. He asked, “Where do you come from?” They answered, “From the land of Canaan, to buy grain for food.”

Jeroboam and all the people reported to Rehoboam on the third day, just as the king had ordered when he said, “Return to me on the third day.”

and followed the advice of the younger ones. He said, “My father imposed heavy demands on you; I will make them even heavier. My father punished you with ordinary whips; I will punish you with whips that really sting your flesh.”

But Rehoboam rejected their advice and consulted the young advisers who served him, with whom he had grown up.

Pharaoh said to him, “Go from me! Watch out for yourself! Do not appear before me again, for when you see my face you will die!”

A gentle response turns away anger, but a harsh word stirs up wrath.

A poor person makes supplications, but a rich man answers harshly.

If you stop listening to instruction, my child, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
