1 Samuel 7:12

Samuel took a stone and placed it between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Up to here the Lord has helped us.”

And Abraham called the name of that place “The Lord provides.” It is said to this day, “In the mountain of the Lord provision will be made.”

So Jacob set up a sacred stone pillar in the place where God spoke with him. He poured out a drink offering on it, and then he poured oil on it.

O God, you have taught me since I was young, and I am still declaring your amazing deeds.

I have leaned on you since birth; you pulled me from my mother’s womb. I praise you continually.

Moses built an altar, and he called it “The Lord is my Banner,”

Joshua also set up twelve stonesin the middle of the Jordan in the very place where the priests carrying the ark of the covenant stood. They remain there to this very day.

Then Saul built an altar for the Lord; it was the first time he had built an altar for the Lord.

Samuel revealed the word of the Lord to all Israel. Then the Israelites went out to fight the Philistines. They camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines camped at Aphek.

Now the Philistines had captured the ark of God and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.

Then the men of Israel left Mizpah and chased the Philistines, striking them down all the way to an area below Beth Car.
