The Lord shatters his adversaries; he thunders against them from the heavens. The Lord executes judgment to the ends of the earth. He will strengthen his king and exalt the power of his anointed one.”

The Lord thundered from the sky; the sovereign One shouted loudly.

He will build a house for my name, and I will make his dynasty permanent.

“So now, say this to my servant David: ‘This is what the Lord of hosts says: I took you from the pasture and from your work as a shepherd to make you leader of my people Israel.

Do you have an arm as powerful as God’s, and can you thunder with a voice like his?

There I will make David strong; I have determined that my chosen king’s dynasty will continue.

He has made his people victorious, and given all his loyal followers reason to praise – the Israelites, the people who are close to him. Praise the Lord!

The kings of the earth form a united front; the rulers collaborate against the Lord and his anointed king.

You love justice and hate evil. For this reason God, your God has anointed you with the oil of joy, elevating you above your companions.

For you give them splendor and strength. By your favor we are victorious.

He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love, and by my name he will win victories.

I will place his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.

Now look! Here is the king you have chosen – the one that you asked for! Look, the Lord has given you a king!

Is this not the time of the wheat harvest? I will call on the Lord so that he makes it thunder and rain. Realize and see what a great sin you have committed before the Lord by asking for a king for yourselves.”

So Samuel called to the Lord, and the Lord made it thunder and rain that day. All the people were very afraid of both the Lord and Samuel.

Here I am. Bring a charge against me before the Lord and before his chosen king. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I wronged? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I taken a bribe so that I would overlook something? Tell me, and I will return it to you!”

Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to one of your colleagues who is better than you!

The Lord said to Samuel, “How long do you intend to mourn for Saul? I have rejected him as king over Israel. Fill your horn with olive oil and go! I am sending you to Jesse in Bethlehem, for I have selected a king for myself from among his sons.”

As Samuel was offering burnt offerings, the Philistines approached to do battle with Israel. But on that day the Lord thundered loudly against the Philistines. He caused them to panic, and they were defeated by Israel.
