So the king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke with them. (Now the Gibeonites were not descendants of Israel; they were a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had made a promise to them, but Saul tried to kill them because of his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.)

the king summoned Shimei and said to him, “You will recall that I made you take an oath by the Lord, and I solemnly warned you, ‘If you ever leave and go anywhere, know for sure that you will certainly die.’ You said to me, ‘The proposal is acceptable; I agree to it.’

Then the king said to Shimei, “You are well aware of the way you mistreated my father David. The Lord will punish you for what you did.

In Judah God moved the people to unite and carry out the edict the king and the officers had issued at the Lord’s command.

Obey the king’s command, because you took an oath before God to be loyal to him.

Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities but also because of your conscience.
