Who ever serves in the army at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat its fruit? Who tends a flock and does not consume its milk?

The one who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and whoever takes care of his master will be honored.

And there will be enough goat’s milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the sustenance of your servant girls.

My vineyard, which belongs to me, is at my disposal alone. The thousand shekels belong to you, O Solomon, and two hundred shekels belong to those who maintain it for its fruit.

From the abundance of milk they produce, he will have sour milk for his meals. Indeed, everyone left in the heart of the land will eat sour milk and honey.

Watch out for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God that he obtained with the blood of his own Son.

He must eat the same share they do, despite any profits he may gain from the sale of his family’s inheritance.

Or who among you has planted a vineyard and not benefited from it? He may go home, lest he die in battle and someone else benefit from it.

I put this charge before you, Timothy my child, in keeping with the prophecies once spoken about you, in order that with such encouragement you may fight the good fight.

Compete well for the faith and lay hold of that eternal life you were called for and made your good confession for in the presence of many witnesses.

I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith!

Give a shepherd’s care to God’s flock among you, exercising oversight not merely as a duty but willingly under God’s direction, not for shameful profit but eagerly.
