Strengthen the hands that have gone limp, steady the knees that shake!

He says, “Build it! Build it! Clear a way! Remove all the obstacles out of the way of my people!”

“Son of man, these men have erected their idols in their hearts and placed the obstacle leading to their iniquity right before their faces. Should I really allow them to seek me?

Because they used to minister to them before their idols, and became a sinful obstacle to the house of Israel, consequently I have made a vow concerning them, declares the sovereign Lord, that they will be responsible for their sin.

You must not curse a deaf person or put a stumbling block in front of a blind person. You must fear your God; I am the Lord.

“See that you do not disdain one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.

But we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not just please ourselves.

Do not seek your own good, but the good of the other person.

But if someone says to you, “This is from a sacrifice,” do not eat, because of the one who told you and because of conscience –

I do not mean yours but the other person’s. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?

Do not give offense to Jews or Greeks or to the church of God,

For if someone weak sees you who possess knowledge dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience be “strengthened” to eat food offered to idols?

If you sin against your brothers or sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

To the weak I became weak in order to gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that by all means I may save some.

(To my disgrace I must say that we were too weak for that!) But whatever anyone else dares to boast about (I am speaking foolishly), I also dare to boast about the same thing.

Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is led into sin, and I do not burn with indignation?

We do not give anyone an occasion for taking an offense in anything, so that no fault may be found with our ministry.

For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but through love serve one another.

Be careful not to allow anyone to captivate you through an empty, deceitful philosophy that is according to human traditions and the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Live as free people, not using your freedom as a pretext for evil, but as God’s slaves.

Although these false teachers promise such people freedom, they themselves are enslaved to immorality. For whatever a person succumbs to, to that he is enslaved.

But I have a few things against you: You have some people there who follow the teaching of Balaam, who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block before the people of Israel so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality.
