Joab son of Zeruiah was commanding general of the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was secretary;

Joab son of Zeruiah was general in command of the army; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was secretary;

Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, wrote down what happened. Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was in charge of the records.

David said, “Whoever attacks the Jebusites first will become commanding general!” So Joab son of Zeruiah attacked first and became commander.

David reigned over all Israel; he guaranteed justice for all his people.

Zadok son of Ahitub and Abimelech son of Abiathar were priests; Shavsha was scribe;

Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah and by Abiathar. Joab was the commanding general of the king’s army.
