Zephaniah 3:7

I said, ‘Surely now Jerusalem will respect me and will accept my teaching.’ Then the place where they lived would not be destroyed, and I would not have to punish them. But they were still eager to do evil in everything they did.

When God saw that everyone on the earth did only evil,

So the Lord brought the king of Assyria’s army commanders to attack Judah. They captured Manasseh, put hooks in him, placed bronze chains on his hands, and took him to Babylon.

God makes them listen to his warning and commands them to change from doing evil.

The Lord says, “I will make you wise and show you where to go. I will guide you and watch over you.

Listen to advice and accept correction, and in the end you will be wise.

What more could I have done for my vineyard than I have already done? Although I expected good grapes to grow, why were there only bad ones?

He said, “These are my people; my children will not lie to me.” So he saved them.

But your ancestors did not listen or pay attention to me. They were very stubborn and did not listen. I punished them, but it didn’t do any good.

Those prophets have said, “Stop your evil ways. Stop doing what is wrong so you can stay in the land that the Lord gave to you and your ancestors to live in forever.

Maybe the family of Judah will hear what disasters I am planning to bring on them and will stop doing wicked things. Then I would forgive them for the sins and the evil things they have done.”

Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “This is what the Lord God All-Powerful, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, your life will be saved. Jerusalem will not be burned down, and you and your family will live.

Listen to this warning, Jerusalem, or I will turn my back on you and make your land an empty desert where no one can live.”

If you do these things, I will let you live in this land that I gave to your ancestors to keep forever.

I have listened to them very carefully, but they do not say what is right. They do not feel sorry about their wicked ways, saying, “What have I done?” Each person goes his own way, like a horse charging into a battle.

The people of Israel have gone deep into sin as the people of Gibeah did. The Lord will remember the evil things they have done, and he will punish their sins.

It obeys no voice; it can’t be taught to do right. It doesn’t trust the Lord; it doesn’t worship its God.

Don’t sin by making idols of any kind, and don’t make statues—of men or women,

The purpose of this command is for people to have love, a love that comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a true faith.

The Lord is not slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but he wants all people to change their hearts and lives.
