I asked him, “Where are you going?” He said to me, “I am going to measure Jerusalem, to see how wide and how long it is.”

The measuring line will stretch from the Corner Gate straight to the hill of Gareb. Then it will turn to the place named Goah.

He took me closer to the buildings, and I saw a man who looked as if he were made of bronze, standing in the gateway. He had a cord made of linen and a stick in his hand, both for measuring.

“ ‘You must give the city an area that is about one and one-half miles wide and about seven miles long, along the side of the holy area. It will belong to all the people of Israel.

“So this is what the Lord says: ‘I will return to Jerusalem with mercy. My Temple will be rebuilt,’ says the Lord All-Powerful, ‘and the measuring line will be used to rebuild Jerusalem.’

I asked the angel who was talking with me, “Where are they taking the basket?”

Now I am going back to the One who sent me. But none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’

I was given a measuring stick like a rod, and I was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the people worshiping there.
