Night and day please watch over this Temple where you have said, ‘I will be worshiped there.’ Hear the prayer I pray facing this Temple.

Then the king sent horses, chariots, and many troops to Dothan. They arrived at night and surrounded the city.

As the enemy came down toward Elisha, he prayed to the Lord, “Make these people blind.” So he made the Aramean army blind, as Elisha had asked.

Day and night please watch over this Temple where you have said you would be worshiped. Hear the prayer I pray facing this Temple.

“Now, my God, look at us. Listen to the prayers we pray in this place.

Now I will see them, and I will listen to the prayers prayed in this place.

Look and listen carefully. Hear the prayer that I, your servant, am praying to you day and night for your servants, the Israelites. I confess the sins we Israelites have done against you. My father’s family and I have sinned against you.

At that time the Lord will punish the powers in the sky above and the rulers on earth below.

Hear, Lord, and listen. Open your eyes, Lord, and see. Listen to all the words Sennacherib has said to insult the living God.

I will look after them and bring them back to the land of Judah. I will not tear them down, but I will build them up. I will not pull them up, but I will plant them so they can grow.

I will turn you around and put hooks in your jaws. And I will bring you out with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all of whom will be dressed in beautiful uniforms. They will be a large army with large and small shields and all having swords.

At my table you are to eat until you are full of horses and riders, mighty men and all kinds of soldiers,’ says the Lord God.

My God, pay attention and hear me. Open your eyes and see all the terrible things that have happened to us. See how our lives have been ruined and what has happened to the city that is called by your name. We do not ask these things because we are good; instead, we ask because of your mercy.

Together they will be like soldiers marching to battle through muddy streets. The Lord is with them, so they will fight and defeat the horsemen.

At that time there will be much crying in Jerusalem, like the crying for Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

One day all the nations on earth will come together to attack Jerusalem, but I will make it like a heavy rock; anyone who tries to move it will get hurt.

Then the leaders of Judah will say to themselves, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the Lord All-Powerful is their God.’

“At that time I will make the leaders of Judah like a fire burning a stack of wood or like a fire burning straw. They will destroy all the people around them left and right. But the people of Jerusalem will remain safe.

A similar disease will strike the horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all the animals in the camps.

I will protect my Temple from armies who would come or go. No one will hurt my people again, because now I am watching them.

In the past, people did not understand God, and he ignored this. But now, God tells all people in the world to change their hearts and lives.

The Lord will give you madness, blindness, and a confused mind.
