We have suffered many insults from lazy people and much cruelty from the proud.

Lord, remember what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. They said, “Tear it down! Tear it down to its foundations!”

They chase after those you have hurt, and they talk about the pain of those you have wounded.

I became very angry and hid from you for a time, but I will show you mercy with kindness forever,” says the Lord who saves you.

But all those nations that destroyed you will now be destroyed. All your enemies will become captives in other lands. Those who stole from you will have their own things stolen. Those who took things from you in war will have their own things taken.

This is what the Lord All-Powerful says: “The people of Israel and Judah are slaves. The enemy took them as prisoners and won’t let them go.

“But I will pay back Babylon and all the Babylonians for all the evil things they did to Jerusalem in your sight,” says the Lord.

“Human, the city of Tyre has spoken against Jerusalem: ‘The city that traded with the nations is destroyed. Now we can be the trading center. Since the city of Jerusalem is ruined, we can make money.’

How terrible it will be for those who have an easy life in Jerusalem, for those who feel safe living on Mount Samaria. You think you are the important people of the best nation in the world; the Israelites come to you for help.

In anger you marched on the earth; in anger you punished the nations.

Then they spoke to the Lord’s angel, who was standing among the myrtle trees. They said, “We have gone through all the earth, and everything is calm and quiet.”

“The Lord was very angry with your ancestors.

But the Lord will bring a terrible disease on the nations that fought against Jerusalem. Their flesh will rot away while they are still standing up. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.

Then he called to me, “Look, the horses that went north have caused my spirit to rest in the land of the north.”
