There was no hope that Abraham would have children. But Abraham believed God and continued hoping, and so he became the father of many nations. As God told him, “Your descendants also will be too many to count.”

It is sad not to get what you hoped for. But wishes that come true are like eating fruit from the tree of life.

Then he said to me, “Human, these bones are like all the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope has gone. We are destroyed.’

Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I know that what you say is true? I am an old man, and my wife is old, too.”

So men, have courage. I trust in God that everything will happen as his angel told me.

As it is written in the Scriptures: “I am making you a father of many nations.” This is true before God, the God Abraham believed, the God who gives life to the dead and who creates something out of nothing.

Abraham was almost a hundred years old, much past the age for having children, and Sarah could not have children. Abraham thought about all this, but his faith in God did not become weak.

And this hope will never disappoint us, because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts. He gave us his love through the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to us.

We were saved, and we have this hope. If we see what we are waiting for, that is not really hope. People do not hope for something they already have.

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, sure and strong. It enters behind the curtain in the Most Holy Place in heaven,
