Romans 4:11

Abraham was circumcised to show that he was right with God through faith before he was circumcised. So Abraham is the father of all those who believe but are not circumcised; he is the father of all believers who are accepted as being right with God.

Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised.

The leaders of the nations meet with the people of the God of Abraham, because the leaders of the earth belong to God. He is supreme.

But the blood will be a sign on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. Nothing terrible will hurt you when I punish the land of Egypt.

“Tell the Israelites, ‘You must keep the rules about my Sabbaths, because they will be a sign between you and me from now on. In this way you will know that I, the Lord, make you holy.

The Sabbath day will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, because in six days I, the Lord, made the sky and the earth. On the seventh day I did not work; I rested.’ ”

I also gave them my Sabbaths to be a sign between us so they would know that I am the Lord who made them holy.

Keep my Sabbaths holy, and they will be a sign between me and you. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God.”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Many people will come from the east and from the west and will sit and eat with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus said to him, “Salvation has come to this house today, because this man also belongs to the family of Abraham.

Whoever accepts what he says has proven that God is true.

Those who believe in the Son have eternal life, but those who do not obey the Son will never have life. God’s anger stays on them.”

Then Jesus said, “I am the bread that gives life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

Those who see the Son and believe in him have eternal life, and I will raise them on the last day. This is what my Father wants.”

I tell you the truth, whoever believes has eternal life.

They answered, “We are Abraham’s children, and we have never been anyone’s slaves. So why do you say we will be free?”

As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed.”

Christ ended the law so that everyone who believes in him may be right with God.

But this is what the Scripture says about being made right through faith: “Don’t say to yourself, ‘Who will go up into heaven?’ ” (That means, “Who will go up to heaven and bring Christ down to earth?”)

God makes people right with himself through their faith in Jesus Christ. This is true for all who believe in Christ, because all people are the same:

And God gave Jesus to show today that he does what is right. God did this so he could judge rightly and so he could make right any person who has faith in Jesus.

Of course he is, because there is only one God. He will make Jews right with him by their faith, and he will also make those who are not Jews right with him through their faith.

So how did this happen? Did God accept Abraham before or after he was circumcised? It was before his circumcision.

So what does all this mean? Those who are not Jews were not trying to make themselves right with God, but they were made right with God because of their faith.

As it is written in the Scripture: “I will put in Jerusalem a stone that causes people to stumble, a rock that makes them fall. Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed.”

It is not that God failed to keep his promise to them. But only some of the people of Israel are truly God’s people,

He put his mark on us to show that we are his, and he put his Spirit in our hearts to be a guarantee for all he has promised.

Instead, the Scriptures showed that the whole world is bound by sin. This was so the promise would be given through faith to people who believe in Jesus Christ.

You belong to Christ, so you are Abraham’s descendants. You will inherit all of God’s blessings because of the promise God made to Abraham.

So you should know that the true children of Abraham are those who have faith.

But we have the true hope that comes from being made right with God, and by the Spirit we wait eagerly for this hope.

Peace and mercy to those who follow this rule—and to all of God’s people.

So it is with you. When you heard the true teaching—the Good News about your salvation—you believed in Christ. And in Christ, God put his special mark of ownership on you by giving you the Holy Spirit that he had promised.

And do not make the Holy Spirit sad. The Spirit is God’s proof that you belong to him. God gave you the Spirit to show that God will make you free when the final day comes.

The Lord your God will prepare you and your descendants to love him with your whole being so that you will live.

and to belong to him. Now I am right with God, not because I followed the law, but because I believed in Christ. God uses my faith to make me right with him.

It was by faith that Noah heard God’s warnings about things he could not yet see. He obeyed God and built a large boat to save his family. By his faith, Noah showed that the world was wrong, and he became one of those who are made right with God through faith.

They were told not to harm the grass on the earth or any plant or tree. They could harm only the people who did not have the sign of God on their foreheads.
