No! God will continue to be true even when every person is false. As the Scriptures say: “So you will be shown to be right when you speak, and you will win your case.”

What I know comes from far away. I will show that my Maker is right.

Would you say that I am unfair? Would you blame me to make yourself look right?

The Lord is good. His love is forever, and his loyalty goes on and on.

In my distress I said, “All people are liars.”

Your words are true from the start, and all your laws will be fair forever.

I will bow down facing your holy Temple, and I will thank you for your love and loyalty. You have made your name and your word greater than anything.

The least of people are only a breath, and even the greatest are just a lie. On the scales, they weigh nothing; together they are only a breath.

You will be true to the people of Jacob, and you will be kind to the people of Abraham as you promised to our ancestors long ago.

Whoever accepts what he says has proven that God is true.

So I ask: Did God throw out his people? No! I myself am an Israelite from the family of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.

So I ask: When the Jews fell, did that fall destroy them? No! But their failure brought salvation to those who are not Jews, in order to make the Jews jealous.

So do we destroy the law by following the way of faith? No! Faith causes us to be what the law truly wants.

So what should we do? Should we sin because we are under grace and not under law? No!

No! We died to our old sinful lives, so how can we continue living with sin?

Does this mean that something that is good brought death to me? No! Sin used something that is good to bring death to me. This happened so that I could see what sin is really like; the command was used to show that sin is very evil.

You might think I am saying that sin and the law are the same thing. That is not true. But the law was the only way I could learn what sin meant. I would never have known what it means to want to take something belonging to someone else if the law had not said, “You must not want to take your neighbor’s things.”

So what should we say about this? Is God unfair? In no way.

Surely you know that your bodies are parts of Christ himself. So I must never take the parts of Christ and join them to a prostitute!

But since you can believe God, you can believe that what we tell you is never both yes and no.

We Jews came to Christ, trying to be made right with God, and it became clear that we are sinners, too. Does this mean that Christ encourages sin? No!

By saying these things I am not going against God’s grace. Just the opposite, if the law could make us right with God, then Christ’s death would be useless.

I hope I will never brag about things like that. The cross of our Lord Jesus Christ is my only reason for bragging. Through the cross of Jesus my world was crucified, and I died to the world.

He is like a rock; what he does is perfect, and he is always fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong, who is right and fair.

Without doubt, the secret of our life of worship is great: He was shown to us in a human body, proved right in spirit, and seen by angels. He was proclaimed to the nations, believed in by the world, and taken up in glory.

That faith and that knowledge come from the hope for life forever, which God promised to us before time began. And God cannot lie.

These two things cannot change: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. These things encourage us who came to God for safety. They give us strength to hold on to the hope we have been given.

Anyone who believes in the Son of God has the truth that God told us. Anyone who does not believe makes God a liar, because that person does not believe what God told us about his Son.

We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we can know the True One. And our lives are in the True One and in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God and the eternal life.

“Write this to the angel of the church in Philadelphia: “This is what the One who is holy and true, who holds the key of David, says. When he opens a door, no one can close it. And when he closes it, no one can open it.
