He told them how wealthy he was and how many sons he had. He also told them all the ways the king had honored him and how the king had placed him higher than his important men and his royal officers.

They won’t be afraid of bad news; their hearts are steady because they trust the Lord.

They are confident and will not be afraid; they will look down on their enemies.

“Look what happened to the man who did not depend on God but depended on his money. He grew strong by his evil plans.”

All day long they twist my words; all their evil plans are against me.

God, do not let them escape; punish the foreign nations in your anger.

Do not trust in force. Stealing is of no use. Even if you gain more riches, don’t put your trust in them.

Having lots of money protects the rich, but having no money destroys the poor.

Those who trust in riches will be ruined, but a good person will be healthy like a green leaf.

Wealth can vanish in the wink of an eye. It can seem to grow wings and fly away like an eagle.

This is what the Lord says: “The wise must not brag about their wisdom. The strong must not brag about their strength. The rich must not brag about their money.

Israel said, “I am rich! I am someone with power!” All their money will do them no good because of the sins they have done.

The followers were amazed at what Jesus said. But he said again, “My children, it is very hard to enter the kingdom of God!

Then I can say to myself, “I have enough good things stored to last for many years. Rest, eat, drink, and enjoy life!” ’

Command those who are rich with things of this world not to be proud. Tell them to hope in God, not in their uncertain riches. God richly gives us everything to enjoy.
