You know that the Lord has chosen for himself those who are loyal to him. The Lord listens when I pray to him.

He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many people will see this and worship him. Then they will trust the Lord.

Troubles have come again and again, sounding like waterfalls. Your waves are crashing all around me.

At your side one thousand people may die, or even ten thousand right beside you, but you will not be hurt.

“Then you will call to me, but I will not answer. You will look for me, but you will not find me.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you. When you cross rivers, you will not drown. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flames hurt you.

This is what the Lord says: “At the right time I will hear your prayers. On the day of salvation I will help you. I will protect you, and you will be the sign of my agreement with the people. You will bring back the people to the land and give the land that is now ruined back to its owners.

So you should look for the Lord before it is too late; you should call to him while he is near.

You will look for me, but you will not find me. And you cannot come where I am.”

He comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them with the same comfort God gives us.

God says, “At the right time I heard your prayers. On the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you that the “right time” is now, and the “day of salvation” is now.

But I was given mercy so that in me, the worst of all sinners, Christ Jesus could show that he has patience without limit. His patience with me made me an example for those who would believe in him and have life forever.

It teaches us not to live against God nor to do the evil things the world wants to do. Instead, that grace teaches us to live in the present age in a wise and right way and in a way that shows we serve God.
