Lord, in your kindness you made my mountain safe. But when you turned away, I was frightened.

You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your care you watched over my life.

Lord, why are you so far away? Why do you hide when there is trouble?

Because of your great anger, you have picked me up and thrown me away.

When you turn away from them, they become frightened. When you take away their breath, they die and turn to dust.

Lord, answer me quickly, because I am getting weak. Don’t turn away from me, or I will be like those who are dead.

His anger lasts only a moment, but his kindness lasts for a lifetime. Crying may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

He lifted me out of the pit of destruction, out of the sticky mud. He stood me on a rock and made my feet steady.

It wasn’t their swords that took the land. It wasn’t their power that gave them victory. But it was your great power and strength. You were with them because you loved them.

Lord, you bless those who do what is right; you protect them like a soldier’s shield.

You are their glorious strength, and in your kindness you honor our king.

It was for my own good that I had such troubles. Because you love me very much, you did not let me die but threw my sins far away.

Then I will become very angry at them, and I will leave them. I will turn away from them, and they will be destroyed. Many terrible things will happen to them. Then they will say, ‘It is because God is not with us that these terrible things are happening.’
