This is what the Lord has said against Sennacherib: ‘The people of Jerusalem hate you and make fun of you. The people of Jerusalem laugh at you as you run away.

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord sits on his throne in heaven. He sees what people do; he keeps his eye on them.

Our God is in heaven. He does what he pleases.

Lord, I look upward to you, you who live in heaven.

But the Lord laughs at the wicked, because he sees that their day is coming.

The wicked are filled with terror where there had been nothing to fear. God will scatter the bones of your enemies. You will defeat them, because God has rejected them.

But, Lord, you laugh at them; you make fun of all of them.

God, my strength, I am looking to you, because God is my defender.

Sing to the one who rides through the skies, which are from long ago. He speaks with a thundering voice.

So I will laugh when you are in trouble. I will make fun when disaster strikes you,

God sits on his throne above the circle of the earth, and compared to him, people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the skies like a piece of cloth and spreads them out like a tent to sit under.

And this is the reason: God lives forever and is holy. He is high and lifted up. He says, “I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are sad and humble. I give new life to those who are humble and to those whose hearts are broken.

This is what the Lord says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. So do you think you can build a house for me? Do I need a place to rest?
