The Lord can control a king’s mind as he controls a river; he can direct it as he pleases.

People may make plans in their minds, but the Lord decides what they will do.

The Lord decides what a person will do; no one understands what his life is all about.

For seven days they celebrated the Feast of Unleavened Bread in a very joyful way. The Lord had made them happy by changing the mind of the king of Assyria so that he helped them in the work on the Temple of the God of Israel.

and saved him from all his troubles. The king of Egypt liked Joseph and respected him because of the wisdom God gave him. The king made him governor of Egypt and put him in charge of all the people in his palace.

People may make plans in their minds, but only the Lord can make them come true.

People on earth are not truly important. God does what he wants with the powers of heaven and the people on earth. No one can stop his powerful hand or question what he does.

He caused them to be pitied by those who held them captive.

Look at the new thing I am going to do. It is already happening. Don’t you see it? I will make a road in the desert and rivers in the dry land.

He caused the Egyptians to hate his people and to make plans against his servants.

Then the king said to me, “What do you want?” First I prayed to the God of heaven.

Lord, listen carefully to the prayer of your servant and the prayers of your servants who love to honor you. Give me, your servant, success today; allow this king to show kindness to me.” I was the one who served wine to the king.

You opened up the springs and streams and made the flowing rivers run dry.

I tell the deep waters, ‘Become dry! I will make your streams become dry!’

The sound of the water is loud; the ocean waves are powerful, but the Lord above is much greater.

The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates so that the water in the river was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the east to come.

The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood.

Sea, why did you run away? Jordan, why did you turn back?

The Red Sea looked and ran away; the Jordan River turned back.

“Find Jeremiah and take care of him. Do not hurt him, but do for him whatever he asks you.”

But I will make the king stubborn. I will do many miracles in Egypt,

He will return to his country the same way he came, and he will not enter this city,’ says the Lord.

In the first year Cyrus was king of Persia, the Lord caused Cyrus to send an announcement to his whole kingdom and to put it in writing. This happened so the Lord’s message spoken by Jeremiah would come true. He wrote:

This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given all the kingdoms of the earth to me, and he has appointed me to build a Temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah.

And may I have a letter for Asaph, the keeper of the king’s forest, telling him to give me timber? I will need it to make boards for the gates of the palace, which is by the Temple, and for the city wall, and for the house in which I will live.” So the king gave me the letters, because God was showing kindness to me.

And the king was pleased with Esther more than with any of the other virgins. He liked her more than any of the others, so he put a royal crown on her head and made her queen in place of Vashti.
