Whoever mistreats the poor insults their Maker; whoever enjoys someone’s trouble will be punished.

“I have not been happy when my enemies fell or laughed when they had trouble.

My strong love for your Temple completely controls me. When people insult you, it hurts me.

It is a sin to hate your neighbor, but being kind to the needy brings happiness.

Whoever mistreats the poor insults their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

The Lord hates those who are proud. They will surely be punished.

Lord, I didn’t run away from being the shepherd you wanted. I didn’t want the terrible day to come. You know everything I have said; you see all that is happening.

Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the Lord God. This is what the Lord God says: You were glad when my Temple was dishonored, when the land of Israel was ruined, and when the people of Judah were taken away as captives.

You did violence to your relatives, the Israelites, so you will be covered with shame and destroyed forever.

Because you drank in my Temple, all the nations will drink on and on. They will drink and drink until they disappear.

Be happy with those who are happy, and be sad with those who are sad.

Suppose someone has enough to live and sees a brother or sister in need, but does not help. Then God’s love is not living in that person.
