There are wicked men among my people. Like those who make nets for catching birds, they set their traps to catch people.

But sinners will fall into their own traps; they will only catch themselves!

The wicked talk about killing people, but the words of good people will save them.

They asked Festus to do them a favor. They wanted him to send Paul back to Jerusalem, because they had a plan to kill him on the way.

So this is what we want you to do: Send a message to the commander to bring Paul out to you as though you want to ask him more questions. We will be waiting to kill him while he is on the way here.”

All of the faithful people are gone; there is not one good person left in this country. Everyone is waiting to kill someone; everyone is trying to trap someone else.

Before this, I was like a gentle lamb waiting to be butchered. I did not know they had made plans against me, saying: “Let us destroy the tree and its fruit. Let’s kill him so people will forget him.”

Some people have teeth like swords; their jaws seem full of knives. They want to remove the poor from the earth and the needy from the land.

They are eager to do evil and are quick to kill.

They wait. They hide. They watch my steps, hoping to kill me.

For no reason they spread out their net to trap me; for no reason they dug a pit for me.

They are like lions ready to kill; like lions, they sit in hiding.

But this happened so that what is written in their law would be true: ‘They hated me for no reason.’

Don’t be wicked and attack a good family’s house; don’t rob the place where they live.

Partners of thieves are their own worst enemies. If they have to testify in court, they are afraid to say anything.
