I know how to live when I am poor, and I know how to live when I have plenty. I have learned the secret of being happy at any time in everything that happens, when I have enough to eat and when I go hungry, when I have more than I need and when I do not have enough.

You gave your good Spirit to teach them. You gave them manna to eat and water when they were thirsty.

The Lord spoke to me with his great power and warned me not to follow the lead of the rest of the people. He said,

I preached God’s Good News to you without pay. I made myself unimportant to make you important. Do you think that was wrong?

If I needed something when I was with you, I did not trouble any of you. The brothers who came from Macedonia gave me all that I needed. I did not allow myself to depend on you in any way, and I will never depend on you.
