Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stay here beside your burnt offering and I will go. If the Lord comes to me, I will tell you whatever he shows me.” Then Balaam went to a higher place.

Then Abraham looked up and saw a male sheep caught in a bush by its horns. So Abraham went and took the sheep and killed it. He offered it as a whole burnt offering to God, and his son was saved.

Then God said, “Take your only son, Isaac, the son you love, and go to the land of Moriah. Kill him there and offer him as a whole burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about.”

Then Noah built an altar to the Lord. He took some of all the clean birds and animals, and he burned them on the altar as offerings to God.

Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, gave a whole burnt offering and other sacrifices to God. Aaron and all the elders of Israel came to Moses’ father-in-law to eat the holy meal together before God.

The Lord called to Moses and spoke to him from the Meeting Tent, saying,

But Balaam answered, “I must say what the Lord tells me to say.”

So Balaam said to Balak, “Stay here by your burnt offering, and I will meet with God over there.”

Balak did what Balaam asked, and they offered a bull and a male sheep on each of the altars.

Balaam answered Balak, “I told you before that I can only do what the Lord tells me.”

God came to Balaam there, and Balaam said to him, “I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered a bull and a male sheep on each altar.”

Balaam saw that the Lord wanted to bless Israel, so he did not try to use any magic but looked toward the desert.

Then the devil led Jesus to the top of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and all their splendor.

but I refused to listen to Balaam. So he asked for good things to happen to you! I saved you and brought you out of his power.
