They joined their fellow Israelites and their leading men in taking an oath, which was tied to a curse in case they broke the oath. They promised to follow the Teachings of God, which they had been given through Moses the servant of God, and to obey all the commands, rules, and laws of the Lord our God.

Your love must be real. Hate what is evil, and hold on to what is good.

Moses gave us the teachings that belong to the people of Jacob.

Moses called all the people of Israel together and said: Listen, Israel, to the commands and laws I am giving you today. Learn them and obey them carefully.

So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you, and follow the commands exactly.
