Look and listen carefully. Hear the prayer that I, your servant, am praying to you day and night for your servants, the Israelites. I confess the sins we Israelites have done against you. My father’s family and I have sinned against you.

Hear my prayers and the prayers of your people Israel when we pray facing this place. Hear from your home in heaven, and when you hear, forgive us.

Your people will be sorry for their sins when they are held as prisoners in another country. They will be sorry and pray to you in the land where they are held as prisoners, saying, ‘We have sinned. We have done wrong and acted wickedly.’

Now you plan to make the people of Judah and Jerusalem your slaves, but you also have sinned against the Lord your God.

Our ancestors were unfaithful to God and did what the Lord said was wrong. They left the Lord and stopped worshiping at the Temple where he lives. They rejected him.

“Now, my God, look at us. Listen to the prayers we pray in this place.

As Ezra was praying and confessing and crying and throwing himself down in front of the Temple, a large group of Israelite men, women, and children gathered around him who were also crying loudly.

Now, confess it to the Lord, the God of your ancestors. Do his will and separate yourselves from the people living around you and from your non-Jewish wives.”

Lord, listen carefully to the prayer of your servant and the prayers of your servants who love to honor you. Give me, your servant, success today; allow this king to show kindness to me.” I was the one who served wine to the king.

He will answer the prayers of the needy; he will not reject their prayers.

We have sinned just as our ancestors did. We have done wrong; we have done evil.

Lord, hear my voice; listen to my prayer for help.

Then I confessed my sins to you and didn’t hide my guilt. I said, “I will confess my sins to the Lord,” and you forgave my guilt.Selah

The Lord sees the good people and listens to their prayers.

Morning, noon, and night I am troubled and upset, but he will listen to me.

Lord, you are the God who saves me. I cry out to you day and night.

I said, “Oh, no! I will be destroyed. I am not pure, and I live among people who are not pure, but I have seen the King, the Lord All-Powerful.”

Our ancestors sinned against you, but they are gone; now we suffer because of their sins.

“Lord our God, you used your power and brought us out of Egypt. Because of that, your name is known even today. But we have sinned and have done wrong.

While I was saying these things in my prayer to the Lord, my God, confessing my sins and the sins of the people of Israel and praying for God’s holy hill,

I prayed to the Lord my God and told him about all of our sins. I said, “Lord, you are a great God who causes fear and wonder. You keep your agreement of love with all who love you and obey your commands.

“But we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and turned against you, your commands, and your laws.

Lord, we are all ashamed. Our kings and leaders and our fathers are ashamed, because we have sinned against you.

God will always give what is right to his people who cry to him night and day, and he will not be slow to answer them.

Then her husband died, and she was a widow for eighty-four years. Anna never left the Temple but worshiped God, going without food and praying day and night.

In the past all of us lived like them, trying to please our sinful selves and doing all the things our bodies and minds wanted. We should have suffered God’s anger because we were sinful by nature. We were the same as all other people.

The true widow, who is all alone, puts her hope in God and continues to pray night and day for God’s help.

I thank God as I always mention you in my prayers, day and night. I serve him, doing what I know is right as my ancestors did.

But if we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins, because we can trust God to do what is right. He will cleanse us from all the wrongs we have done.

“I am sorry I made Saul king, because he has stopped following me and has not obeyed my commands.” Samuel was upset, and he cried out to the Lord all night long.
