Nothing can heal your wound; your injury will not heal. Everyone who hears about you applauds, because everyone has felt your endless cruelty.

It will be as if the wind is clapping its hands; it will whistle at them as they run from their place.

You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done. They have completely defeated every country, so do not think you will be saved.

“It is true, Lord, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all these countries and their lands.

Listen! The news is coming. A loud noise comes from the north to make the towns of Judah an empty desert and a home for wild dogs!

This is what the Lord said: “You people have a wound that cannot be cured; your injury will not heal.

“Go up to Gilead and get some balm, people of Egypt! You have prepared many medicines, but they will not work; you will not be healed.

All who pass by on the road clap their hands at you; they make fun of Jerusalem and shake their heads. They ask, “Is this the city that people called the most beautiful city, the happiest place on earth?”

This is what the Lord God says: You have clapped your hands and stamped your feet; you have laughed about all the insults you made against the land of Israel.

“Get up, go to the great city of Nineveh, and preach against it, because I see the evil things they do.”

because Samaria’s wound cannot be healed. It will spread to Judah; it will reach the city gate of my people, all the way to Jerusalem.

It was given power to make war against God’s holy people and to defeat them. It was given power over every tribe, people, language, and nation.

The kings of the earth sinned sexually with her, and the people of the earth became drunk from the wine of her sexual sin.”

Be happy because of this, heaven! Be happy, God’s holy people and apostles and prophets! God has punished her because of what she did to you.”
