The Lord hates dishonest scales, but he is pleased with honest weights.

The Lord hates both these things: dishonest weights and dishonest measures.

The Lord hates dishonest weights, and dishonest scales do not please him.

Wealth that comes from telling lies vanishes like a mist and leads to death.

“The people don’t know how to do what is right,” says the Lord. “Their strong buildings are filled with treasures they took by force from others.”

Announce this to the strong buildings of Ashdod and to the strong buildings of Egypt: “Come to the mountains of Samaria, where you will see great confusion and people hurting others.”

The voice of the Lord calls to the city, and the wise person honors him. So pay attention to the rod of punishment; pay attention to the One who threatens to punish.

On that day I will punish those who worship Dagon, those who hurt others and tell lies in the temples of their gods.

But the Israelites did not obey the Lord. There was a man from the tribe of Judah named Achan. (He was the son of Carmi and grandson of Zabdi, who was the son of Zerah.) Because Achan kept some of the things that were to be given to the Lord, the Lord became very angry at the Israelites.
