Micah 2:1

New Century Version

How terrible it will be for people who plan wickedness, who lie on their beds and make evil plans. When the morning light comes, they do what they planned, because they have the power to do so.

I have the power to harm you, but last night the God of your father spoke to me and warned me not to say anything to you, good or bad.

Jezebel answered, “Is this how you rule as king over Israel? Get up, eat something, and cheer up. I will get Naboth’s vineyard for you.”

Then Haman said to King Xerxes, “There is a certain group of people scattered among the other people in all the states of your kingdom. Their customs are different from those of all the other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws. It is not right for you to allow them to continue living in your kingdom.

Then Haman’s wife, Zeresh, and all his friends said, “Have a seventy-five foot platform built, and in the morning ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on it. Then go to the banquet with the king and be happy.” Haman liked this suggestion, so he ordered the platform to be built.

But when the king learned of the evil plan, he sent out written orders that the evil plans Haman had made against the Jewish people would be used against him. And those orders said that Haman and his sons should be hanged on the platform.

When the day is over, the murderers get up to kill the poor and needy. At night they go about like thieves.

At night they make evil plans; what they do leads to nothing good. They don’t refuse things that are evil.

From birth, evil people turn away from God; they wander off and tell lies as soon as they are born.

The Lord is pleased with a good person, but he will punish anyone who plans evil.

Those who make evil plans will be ruined, but those who plan to do good will be loved and trusted.

Whenever you are able, do good to people who need help.

The Lord presents his case against the elders and other leaders of his people: “You have burned the vineyard. Your houses are full of what you took from the poor.

The wicked person uses evil like a tool. He plans ways to take everything from the poor. He destroys the poor with lies, even when the poor person is in the right.

How terrible it will be for you who add more houses to your houses and more fields to your fields until there is no room left for other people. Then you are left alone in the land.

With your hands you have killed others, and with your fingers you have done wrong. With your lips you have lied, and with your tongue you say evil things.

Then the people said, “Come, let’s make plans against Jeremiah. Surely the teaching of the law by the priest will not be lost. We will still have the advice from the wise teachers and the words of the prophets. So let’s ruin him by telling lies about him. We won’t pay attention to anything he says.”

Then the Lord said to me, “Human, these are the men who plan evil and give wicked advice in this city of Jerusalem.

You depend on your sword and do terrible things which I hate. Each of you has sexual relations with his neighbor’s wife. So should you have the land?’

“ ‘This is what the Lord God says: At that time ideas will come into your mind, and you will think up an evil plan.

The ruler must not take any of the people’s land, forcing them out of their land. He must give his sons some of his own land so my people will not be scattered out of their own land.’ ”

The rich people of the city do cruel things. Its people tell lies; they do not tell the truth.

Someone has come from Nineveh who makes evil plans against the Lord and gives wicked advice.

Don’t hurt widows and orphans, foreigners or the poor; don’t even think of doing evil to somebody else.’

Very early in the morning, the leading priests, the elders, the teachers of the law, and all the Jewish council decided what to do with Jesus. They tied him, led him away, and turned him over to Pilate, the governor.

The teachers of the law and the leading priests wanted to arrest Jesus at once, because they knew the story was about them. But they were afraid of what the people would do.

Jesus answered, “The only power you have over me is the power given to you by God. The man who turned me in to you is guilty of a greater sin.”

In the morning some evil people made a plan to kill Paul, and they took an oath not to eat or drink anything until they had killed him.

So this is what we want you to do: Send a message to the commander to bring Paul out to you as though you want to ask him more questions. We will be waiting to kill him while he is on the way here.”

and say evil things about each other. They hate God. They are rude and conceited and brag about themselves. They invent ways of doing evil. They do not obey their parents.

Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation, and you will grow tired looking for them every day, but there will be nothing you can do.
