“Be careful! When you do good things, don’t do them in front of people to be seen by them. If you do that, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

“Come with me,” Jehu said. “You can see how strong my feelings are for the Lord.” So Jehu had Jehonadab ride in his chariot.

But Jehu was not careful to follow the teachings of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He did not stop doing the same sins Jeroboam had done, by which he had led Israel to sin.

They give freely to the poor. The things they do are right and will continue forever. They will be given great honor.

So they come to you in crowds as if they were really ready to listen. They sit in front of you as if they were my people and hear your words, but they will not obey them. With their mouths they tell me they love me, but their hearts desire their selfish profits.

So, O king, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Stop doing wicked things and be kind to the poor. Then you might continue to be successful.”

“At that time the prophets will be ashamed of their visions and prophecies. They won’t wear the prophet’s clothes made of hair to trick people.

“Tell the priests and the people in the land: ‘For seventy years you fasted and cried in the fifth and seventh months, but that was not really for me.

The Son of Man will come again with his Father’s glory and with his angels. At that time, he will reward them for what they have done.

Jesus said to them, “Be careful! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”

“How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You close the door for people to enter the kingdom of heaven. You yourselves don’t enter, and you stop others who are trying to enter. [

“They do good things so that other people will see them. They enlarge the little boxes holding Scriptures that they wear, and they make their special prayer clothes very long.

“Then the King will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, anything you did for even the least of my people here, you also did for me.’

In the same way, you should be a light for other people. Live so that they will see the good things you do and will praise your Father in heaven.

If you love only the people who love you, you will get no reward. Even the tax collectors do that.

So you must be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

“When you fast, don’t put on a sad face like the hypocrites. They make their faces look sad to show people they are fasting. I tell you the truth, those hypocrites already have their full reward.

So when you pray, you should pray like this: ‘Our Father in heaven, may your name always be kept holy.

Jesus warned them, “Be careful! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

So be careful not to let the light in you become darkness.

So many thousands of people had gathered that they were stepping on each other. Jesus spoke first to his followers, saying, “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, because they are hypocrites.

Then Jesus said to them, “Be careful and guard against all kinds of greed. Life is not measured by how much one owns.”

He said to them, “You make yourselves look good in front of people, but God knows what is really in your hearts. What is important to people is hateful in God’s sight.

They loved praise from people more than praise from God.

You try to get praise from each other, but you do not try to get the praise that comes from the only God. So how can you believe?

When Peter saw this, he said to them, “People of Israel, why are you surprised? You are looking at us as if it were our own power or goodness that made this man walk.

Some people are trying to force you to be circumcised so the Jews will accept them. They are afraid they will be attacked if they follow only the cross of Christ.

Give the coat back at sunset, because your neighbor needs that coat to sleep in, and he will be grateful to you. And the Lord your God will see that you have done a good thing.

He thought it was better to suffer for the Christ than to have all the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking for God’s reward.

So we must be more careful to follow what we were taught. Then we will not stray away from the truth.

God is fair; he will not forget the work you did and the love you showed for him by helping his people. And he will remember that you are still helping them.

Be careful yourselves that you do not lose everything you have worked for, but that you receive your full reward.
