My hand made all things. All things are here because I made them,” says the Lord. “These are the people I am pleased with: those who are not proud or stubborn and who fear my word.

Pride will ruin people, but those who are humble will be honored.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and he saves those whose spirits have been crushed.

It is better to be humble and be with those who suffer than to share stolen property with the proud.

I tell you, when this man went home, he was right with God, but the Pharisee was not. All who make themselves great will be made humble, but all who make themselves humble will be made great.”

Then if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, if they will pray and seek me and stop their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven. I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their land.

The sacrifice God wants is a broken spirit. God, you will not reject a heart that is broken and sorry for sin.

And this is the reason: God lives forever and is holy. He is high and lifted up. He says, “I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are sad and humble. I give new life to those who are humble and to those whose hearts are broken.

Listen, my dear brothers and sisters! God chose the poor in the world to be rich with faith and to receive the kingdom God promised to those who love him.

The Lord God has put his Spirit in me, because the Lord has appointed me to tell the good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts are broken, to tell the captives they are free, and to tell the prisoners they are released.

When you heard my words against this place and its people, you became sorry for what you had done and you humbled yourself before me. You tore your clothes to show how upset you were, and you cried in my presence. This is why I have heard you, says the Lord.

The Lord has told you, human, what is good; he has told you what he wants from you: to do what is right to other people, love being kind to others, and live humbly, obeying your God.

But Jesus said, “No, blessed are those who hear the teaching of God and obey it.”

Praise the Lord! Happy are those who respect the Lord, who want what he commands.

Happy are those who don’t listen to the wicked, who don’t go where sinners go, who don’t do what evil people do.

So now I hate myself; I will change my heart and life. I will sit in the dust and ashes.”

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the people who are wise and smart. But you have shown them to those who are like little children.

“The Lord has put his Spirit in me, because he appointed me to tell the Good News to the poor. He has sent me to tell the captives they are free and to tell the blind that they can see again. God sent me to free those who have been treated unfairly

When Jesus saw this, he was upset and said to them, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to people who are like these children.

But you are blessed, because you see with your eyes and hear with your ears.

The Lord wants to show his mercy to you. He wants to rise and comfort you. The Lord is a fair God, and everyone who waits for his help will be happy.

Happy are those who are helped by the God of Jacob. Their hope is in the Lord their God.

As Manasseh suffered, he begged the Lord his God for help and humbled himself before the God of his ancestors.

Happy are those who think about the poor. When trouble comes, the Lord will save them.

Show that you are loyal to his son, or you will be destroyed by his anger, because he can quickly become angry. But happy are those who trust him for protection.

Amon did not humble himself before the Lord as his father Manasseh had done. Instead, Amon sinned even more.

When people are tempted and still continue strong, they should be happy. After they have proved their faith, God will reward them with life forever. God promised this to all those who love him.

Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you see me. Those who believe without seeing me will be truly blessed.”

When the master comes and finds the servant doing his work, the servant will be blessed.

Lord All-Powerful, happy are the people who trust you!

Remember how the Lord your God has led you in the desert for these forty years, taking away your pride and testing you, because he wanted to know what was in your heart. He wanted to know if you would obey his commands.

Those who are rich should take pride that God has shown them that they are spiritually poor. The rich will die like a wild flower in the grass.

“Now, my children, listen to me, because those who follow my ways are happy.

Manasseh’s prayer and God’s pity for him, his sins, his unfaithfulness, the places he built for worshiping gods and the Asherah idols before he humbled himself—all are written in the book of the seers.

“Blessed are those who wash their robes so that they will receive the right to eat the fruit from the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who have been invited to the wedding meal of the Lamb!” And the angel said, “These are the true words of God.”

“Then the King will say to the people on his right, ‘Come, my Father has given you his blessing. Receive the kingdom God has prepared for you since the world was made.

Happy are those who respect the Lord and obey him.

Those who do not stumble in their faith because of me are blessed.”

Many people will come from the east and from the west and will sit and eat with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

John said, “Change your hearts and lives because the kingdom of heaven is near.”

but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to people who are like these children.”

Just as my Father has given me a kingdom, I also give you a kingdom

so you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom. And you will sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

You say, ‘I am rich, and I have become wealthy and do not need anything.’ But you do not know that you are really miserable, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked.
