The king answered, “You are lazy! You don’t want to work! That is why you ask to leave here and make sacrifices to the Lord.

I realized the reason people work hard and try to succeed: They are jealous of each other. This, too, is useless, like chasing the wind.

“When will the New Moon festival be over so we can sell grain? When will the Sabbath be over so we can bring out wheat to sell? We can charge them more and give them less, and we can change the scales to cheat the people.

You say, ‘We are tired of doing this,’ and you sniff at it in disgust,” says the Lord All-Powerful. “And you bring hurt, crippled, and sick animals as gifts. You bring them as gifts, but I won’t accept them from you,” says the Lord.

While Jesus was there, a woman approached him with an alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume. She poured this perfume on Jesus’ head while he was eating.

It could have been sold for a great deal of money and the money given to the poor.”

Some who were there became upset and said to each other, “Why waste that perfume?
