Share your food with the hungry and bring poor, homeless people into your own homes. When you see someone who has no clothes, give him yours, and don’t refuse to help your own relatives.

You have not made the weak strong. You have not healed the sick or put bandages on those that were hurt. You have not brought back those who strayed away or searched for the lost. But you have ruled the sheep with cruel force.

“Then the good people will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you food, or thirsty and give you something to drink?

I was alone and away from home, and you did not invite me into your house. I was without clothes, and you gave me nothing to wear. I was sick and in prison, and you did not care for me.’

John answered, “If you have two shirts, share with the person who does not have one. If you have food, share that also.”

I showed you in all things that you should work as I did and help the weak. I taught you to remember the words Jesus said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

You helped the prisoners. You even had joy when all that you owned was taken from you, because you knew you had something better and more lasting.

Remember those who are in prison as if you were in prison with them. Remember those who are suffering as if you were suffering with them.

Religion that God accepts as pure and without fault is this: caring for orphans or widows who need help, and keeping yourself free from the world’s evil influence.
