One of the baskets had very good figs in it, like figs that ripen early in the season. But the other basket had figs too rotten to eat.

“Listen, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as clever as snakes and as innocent as doves.

“Who is the wise and loyal servant that the master trusts to give the other servants their food at the right time?

The five foolish bridesmaids took their lamps, but they did not take more oil for the lamps to burn.

The wise bridesmaids took their lamps and more oil in jars.

The wise bridesmaids answered, ‘No, the oil we have might not be enough for all of us. Go to the people who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’

These enemies of Christ were in our fellowship, but they left us. They never really belonged to us; if they had been a part of us, they would have stayed with us. But they left, and this shows that none of them really belonged to us.

I want to remind you of some things you already know: Remember that the Lord saved his people by bringing them out of the land of Egypt. But later he destroyed all those who did not believe.
