King David stood up and said, “Listen to me, my relatives and my people. I wanted to build a place to keep the Ark of the Agreement with the Lord. I wanted it to be God’s footstool. So I made plans to build a temple.

The profits will be saved for the Lord. Tyre will not keep the money she earns but will give them to the people who serve the Lord, so they will have plenty of food and nice clothes.

Kings will teach your children, and daughters of kings will take care of them. They will bow down before you and kiss the dirt at your feet. Then you will know I am the Lord. Anyone who trusts in me will not be disappointed.”

When the king began to collect his money, a servant who owed him several million dollars was brought to him.

In the same way, the servant who had two bags invested them and earned two more.

So he called ten of his servants and gave a coin to each servant. He said, ‘Do business with this money until I get back.’

David did God’s will during his lifetime. Then he died and was buried beside his ancestors, and his body did rot in the grave.

But God’s grace has made me what I am, and his grace to me was not wasted. I worked harder than all the other apostles. (But it was not I really; it was God’s grace that was with me.)

The farmer who works hard should be the first person to get some of the food that was grown.
