Whoever is not willing to carry the cross and follow me is not worthy of me.

As the soldiers were going out of the city with Jesus, they forced a man from Cyrene, named Simon, to carry the cross for Jesus.

Jesus, looking at the man, loved him and said, “There is one more thing you need to do. Go and sell everything you have, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”

A man named Simon from Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was coming from the fields to the city. The soldiers forced Simon to carry the cross for Jesus.

Then Jesus called the crowd to him, along with his followers. He said, “If people want to follow me, they must give up the things they want. They must be willing even to give up their lives to follow me.

Whoever is not willing to carry his cross and follow me cannot be my follower.

As they led Jesus away, Simon, a man from Cyrene, was coming in from the fields. They forced him to carry Jesus’ cross and to walk behind him.

Carrying his own cross, Jesus went out to a place called The Place of the Skull, which in the Hebrew language is called Golgotha.

(Jesus said this to show how Peter would die to give glory to God.) Then Jesus said to Peter, “Follow me!”

Jesus answered, “If I want him to live until I come back, that is not your business. You follow me.”

making the followers of Jesus stronger and helping them stay in the faith. They said, “We must suffer many things to enter God’s kingdom.”

I am happy in my sufferings for you. There are things that Christ must still suffer through his body, the church. I am accepting, in my body, my part of these things that must be suffered.

so none of you would be upset by these troubles. You yourselves know that we must face these troubles.

Everyone who wants to live as God desires, in Christ Jesus, will be persecuted.

This is what you were called to do, because Christ suffered for you and gave you an example to follow. So you should do as he did.
