They will not be hungry or thirsty. Neither the hot sun nor the desert wind will hurt them. The God who comforts them will lead them and guide them by springs of water.

But he does not let the teaching go deep into his life, so he keeps it only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the teaching he accepted, he quickly gives up.

Some seed fell on rocky ground, where there wasn’t much dirt. That seed grew very fast, because the ground was not deep.

Some other seed fell among thorny weeds, which grew and choked the good plants.

But when the sun rose, the plants dried up because they did not have deep roots.

The seed that fell on rock is like those who hear God’s teaching and accept it gladly, but they don’t allow the teaching to go deep into their lives. They believe for a while, but when trouble comes, they give up.

I pray that Christ will live in your hearts by faith and that your life will be strong in love and be built on love.

This will happen if you continue strong and sure in your faith. You must not be moved away from the hope brought to you by the Good News that you heard. That same Good News has been told to everyone in the world, and I, Paul, help in preaching that Good News.

Keep your roots deep in him and have your lives built on him. Be strong in the faith, just as you were taught, and always be thankful.

Those people will never be hungry again, and they will never be thirsty again. The sun will not hurt them, and no heat will burn them,
