Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law answered Jesus, saying, “Teacher, we want to see you work a miracle as a sign.”
The Jews ask for miracles, and the Greeks want wisdom.
Some of his people said to Jesus, “Show us a miracle to prove you have the right to do these things.”
Other people, wanting to test Jesus, asked him to give them a sign from heaven.
Jesus said to him, “You people must see signs and miracles before you will believe in me.”
As the crowd grew larger, Jesus said, “The people who live today are evil. They want to see a miracle for a sign, but no sign will be given them, except the sign of Jonah.
So the people asked, “What miracle will you do? If we see a miracle, we will believe you. What will you do?
The words you have said will be used to judge you. Some of your words will prove you right, but some of your words will prove you guilty.”
