because he was teaching his followers. He said to them, “The Son of Man will be handed over to people, and they will kill him. After three days, he will rise from the dead.”

From that time on Jesus began telling his followers that he must go to Jerusalem, where the Jewish elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law would make him suffer many things. He told them he must be killed and then be raised from the dead on the third day.

In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many people.”

“You know that the day after tomorrow is the day of the Passover Feast. On that day the Son of Man will be given to his enemies to be crucified.”

They said, “Sir, we remember that while that liar was still alive he said, ‘After three days I will rise from the dead.’

who will laugh at him and spit on him. They will beat him with whips and crucify him. But on the third day, he will rise to life again.”

Then Jesus began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and that he would be rejected by the Jewish elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law. He told them that the Son of Man must be killed and then rise from the dead after three days.

Jesus answered, “They are right to say that Elijah must come first and make everything the way it should be. But why does the Scripture say that the Son of Man will suffer much and that people will treat him as if he were nothing?

They said that the Christ must suffer these things before he enters his glory.”

“Don’t forget what I tell you now: The Son of Man will be handed over to people.”

No one takes it away from me; I give my own life freely. I have the right to give my life, and I have the right to take it back. This is what my Father commanded me to do.”

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will build it again in three days.”

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, the Son of Man must also be lifted up.

If we accept suffering, we will also rule with him. If we say we don’t know him, he will say he doesn’t know us.
