He saw his followers struggling hard to row the boat, because the wind was blowing against them. Between three and six o’clock in the morning, Jesus came to them, walking on the water, and he wanted to walk past the boat.

Lot said, “Sirs, please come to my house and spend the night. There you can wash your feet, and then tomorrow you may continue your journey.” The angels answered, “No, we will spend the night in the city’s public square.”

Then he said to Jacob, “Let me go. The sun is coming up.” But Jacob said, “I will let you go if you will bless me.”

He alone stretches out the skies and walks on the waves of the sea.

You build your room above the clouds. You make the clouds your chariot, and you ride on the wings of the wind.

The sound of the water is loud; the ocean waves are powerful, but the Lord above is much greater.

When morning came, the Lord looked down from the pillar of cloud and fire at the Egyptian army and made them panic.

“You poor city. Storms have hurt you, and you have not been comforted. But I will rebuild you with turquoise stones, and I will build your foundations with sapphires.

By this time, the boat was already far away from land. It was being hit by waves, because the wind was blowing against it.

Remember this: If the owner of the house knew what time of night a thief was coming, the owner would watch and not let the thief break in.

So always be ready, because you don’t know when the owner of the house will come back. It might be in the evening, or at midnight, or in the morning while it is still dark, or when the sun rises.

That night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on the land.

But when they saw him walking on the water, they thought he was a ghost and cried out.

Those servants will be blessed when he comes in and finds them still waiting, even if it is midnight or later.

They came near the town of Emmaus, and Jesus acted as if he were going farther.

They did not become his children in any human way—by any human parents or human desire. They were born of God.

The next morning Saul divided his soldiers into three groups. At dawn they entered the Ammonite camp and defeated them before the heat of the day. The Ammonites who escaped were scattered; no two of them were still together.
