When Ahab saw Elijah, he said, “So you have found me, my enemy!” Elijah answered, “Yes, I have found you. You have always chosen to do what the Lord says is wrong.

At this time Elisha became sick. Before he died, Jehoash king of Israel went to Elisha and cried for him. Jehoash said, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and their horsemen!”

When the king of Israel saw the Aramean army, he said to Elisha, “My father, should I kill them? Should I kill them?”

Joash did what the Lord said was right as long as Jehoiada the priest was alive.

Uzziah obeyed God while Zechariah was alive, because he taught Uzziah how to respect and obey God. And as long as Uzziah obeyed the Lord, God gave him success.

The Lord had caused the Egyptians to respect the Israelites, and both the king’s officers and the Egyptian people considered Moses to be a great man.

To your people you are nothing more than a singer who sings love songs and has a beautiful voice and plays a musical instrument well. They hear your words, but they will not obey them.

So, O king, please accept my advice. Stop sinning and do what is right. Stop doing wicked things and be kind to the poor. Then you might continue to be successful.”

Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they believed John was a prophet.

But if we say, ‘It was from people,’ we are afraid of what the crowd will do because they all believe that John was a prophet.”

The leading priests and the teachers of the law heard all this and began trying to find a way to kill Jesus. They were afraid of him, because all the people were amazed at his teaching.

Others are like the seed planted on rocky ground. They hear the teaching and quickly accept it with joy.

John was like a burning and shining lamp, and you were happy to enjoy his light for a while.

They were all amazed and confused, asking each other, “What does this mean?”

Hearing this, the captain of the Temple guards and the leading priests were confused and wondered what was happening.
