Change your heart! Turn away from this evil thing you have done, and pray to the Lord. Maybe he will forgive you for thinking this.

All these evil things begin inside people, in the mind: evil thoughts, sexual sins, stealing, murder, adultery,

The wicked should stop doing wrong, and they should stop their evil thoughts. They should return to the Lord so he may have mercy on them. They should come to our God, because he will freely forgive them.

Making foolish plans is sinful, and making fun of wisdom is hateful.

The Lord hates evil thoughts but is pleased with kind words.

I know, my God, that you test people’s hearts. You are happy when people do what is right. I was happy to give all these things, and I gave with an honest heart. Your people gathered here are happy to give to you, and I rejoice to see their giving.

I will also kill her followers. Then all the churches will know I am the One who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you for what you have done.

Jesus knew what the Pharisees were doing, so he left that place. Many people followed him, and he healed all who were sick.

His followers discussed the meaning of this, saying, “He said this because we forgot to bring bread.”

“Why does this man say things like that? He is speaking as if he were God. Only God can forgive sins.”

Which is easier: to tell this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to tell him, ‘Stand up. Take your mat and walk’?
