And do not cause us to be tempted, but save us from the Evil One.’ [The kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours forever. Amen.]

He said to them, “My heart is full of sorrow, to the point of death. Stay here and watch.”

Then Jesus went back to his followers and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn’t you stay awake with me for one hour?

Again Jesus went away and prayed the same thing.

So be ready all the time. Pray that you will be strong enough to escape all these things that will happen and that you will be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

When he reached the place, he said to them, “Pray for strength against temptation.”

Jesus said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray for strength against temptation.”

Be alert. Continue strong in the faith. Have courage, and be strong.

Our sinful selves want what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit wants what is against our sinful selves. The two are against each other, so you cannot do just what you please.

My dear friends, you have always obeyed God when I was with you. It is even more important that you obey now while I am away from you. Keep on working to complete your salvation with fear and trembling,

Control yourselves and be careful! The devil, your enemy, goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to eat.

You have obeyed my teaching about not giving up your faith. So I will keep you from the time of trouble that will come to the whole world to test those who live on earth.
