“I baptize you with water to show that your hearts and lives have changed. But there is one coming after me who is greater than I am, whose sandals I am not good enough to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

But John tried to stop him, saying, “Why do you come to me to be baptized? I need to be baptized by you!”

John wore clothes made from camel’s hair, had a leather belt around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey.

I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

When he was finishing his work, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the Christ. He is coming later, and I am not worthy to untie his sandals.’

Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of changed hearts and lives. He told people to believe in the one who would come after him, and that one is Jesus.”

Abigail bowed facedown on the ground and said, “I am your servant. I’m ready to serve you and to wash the feet of my master’s servants.”
