Going a little farther, Jesus saw two more brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat, mending their nets.

As Jesus continued walking by Lake Galilee, he saw two other brothers, James and John, the sons of Zebedee. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. Jesus told them to come with him.

So Simon and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed him.

Jesus immediately called them, and they left their father in the boat with the hired workers and followed Jesus.

Then James and John, sons of Zebedee, came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want to ask you to do something for us.”

Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him, and he began to be very sad and troubled.

James and John, the sons of Zebedee (Jesus named them Boanerges, which means “Sons of Thunder”),

Jesus let only Peter, James, and John the brother of James go with him.

Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John up on a high mountain by themselves. While they watched, Jesus’ appearance was changed.

Some of the followers were together: Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the two sons of Zebedee, and two other followers.

When they entered the city, they went to the upstairs room where they were staying. Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon (known as the Zealot), and Judas son of James were there.

He ordered James, the brother of John, to be killed by the sword.
