The Lord God has put his Spirit in me, because the Lord has appointed me to tell the good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort those whose hearts are broken, to tell the captives they are free, and to tell the prisoners they are released.

Jesus knew what the Pharisees were doing, so he left that place. Many people followed him, and he healed all who were sick.

When he arrived, he saw a great crowd waiting. He felt sorry for them and healed those who were sick.

Which of the two sons obeyed his father?” The priests and leaders answered, “The first son.” Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes will enter the kingdom of God before you do.

“So I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to people who do the things God wants in his kingdom.

He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with nothing.

Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy people who need a doctor, but the sick.

After this, while Jesus was traveling through some cities and small towns, he preached and told the Good News about God’s kingdom. The twelve apostles were with him,

Jesus said, “You have been chosen to know the secrets about the kingdom of God. But I use stories to speak to other people so that: ‘They will look, but they may not see. They will listen, but they may not understand.’

When the apostles returned, they told Jesus everything they had done. Then Jesus took them with him to a town called Bethsaida where they could be alone together.

Late in the afternoon, the twelve apostles came to Jesus and said, “Send the people away. They need to go to the towns and countryside around here and find places to sleep and something to eat, because no one lives in this place.”

He sent the apostles out to tell about God’s kingdom and to heal the sick.

Jesus said, “My food is to do what the One who sent me wants me to do and to finish his work.

The Father gives me the people who are mine. Every one of them will come to me, and I will always accept them.

He boldly preached about the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ, and no one stopped him.

But before people can ask the Lord for help, they must believe in him; and before they can believe in him, they must hear about him; and for them to hear about the Lord, someone must tell them;

So faith comes from hearing the Good News, and people hear the Good News when someone tells them about Christ.

Even Christ did not live to please himself. It was as the Scriptures said: “When people insult you, it hurts me.”

Preach the Good News. Be ready at all times, and tell people what they need to do. Tell them when they are wrong. Encourage them with great patience and careful teaching,

Let us, then, feel very sure that we can come before God’s throne where there is grace. There we can receive mercy and grace to help us when we need it.
