Which of the two sons obeyed his father?” The priests and leaders answered, “The first son.” Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes will enter the kingdom of God before you do.

“The tax collector, standing at a distance, would not even look up to heaven. But he beat on his chest because he was so sad. He said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

All the people saw this and began to complain, “Jesus is staying with a sinner!”

But the Pharisees and the men who taught the law for the Pharisees began to complain to Jesus’ followers, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

I have not come to invite good people but sinners to change their hearts and lives.”

The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine, and he is a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him, so Jesus went into the Pharisee’s house and sat at the table.

Mary was the woman who later put perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair. Mary’s brother was Lazarus, the man who was now sick.

So for the second time, they called the man who had been blind. They said, “You should give God the glory by telling the truth. We know that this man is a sinner.”

We all know that God does not listen to sinners, but he listens to anyone who worships and obeys him.

But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners.

What I say is true, and you should fully accept it: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst.

We also know that the law is not made for good people but for those who are against the law and for those who refuse to follow it. It is for people who are against God and are sinful, who are unholy and ungodly, who kill their fathers and mothers, who murder,

“If it is very hard for a good person to be saved, the wicked person and the sinner will surely be lost!”
