“Later, that same servant found another servant who owed him a few dollars. The servant grabbed him around the neck and said, ‘Pay me the money you owe me!’

The man agreed to pay the workers one coin for working that day. Then he sent them into the vineyard to work.

Then Jesus asked, “Whose image and name are on the coin?”

They gave Jesus a coin, and he asked, “Whose image and name are on the coin?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”

At that time, Augustus Caesar sent an order that all people in the countries under Roman rule must list their names in a register.

Tell us, is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

But Jesus, knowing they were trying to trick him, said,

Jesus said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and give to God the things that are God’s.”

They began to accuse Jesus, saying, “We caught this man telling things that mislead our people. He says that we should not pay taxes to Caesar, and he calls himself the Christ, a king.”

It was the fifteenth year of the rule of Tiberius Caesar. These men were under Caesar: Pontius Pilate, the ruler of Judea; Herod, the ruler of Galilee; Philip, Herod’s brother, the ruler of Iturea and Traconitis; and Lysanias, the ruler of Abilene.

One of them, named Agabus, stood up and spoke with the help of the Holy Spirit. He said, “A very hard time is coming to the whole world. There will be no food to eat.” (This happened when Claudius ruled.)

And Agrippa said to Festus, “We could let this man go free, but he has asked Caesar to hear his case.”

All of God’s people greet you, particularly those from the palace of Caesar.
