And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. Then books were opened, and the book of life was opened. The dead were judged by what they had done, which was written in the books.

Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others. Be good servants of God’s various gifts of grace.

But they will have to explain this to God, who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

The sins of some people are easy to see even before they are judged, but the sins of others are seen only later.

God will judge everything, even what is done in secret, the good and the evil.

Use the gift you have, which was given to you through prophecy when the group of elders laid their hands on you.

because we must all stand before Christ to be judged. Each of us will receive what we should get—good or bad—for the things we did in the earthly body.

So do not judge before the right time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light things that are now hidden in darkness, and will make known the secret purposes of people’s hearts. Then God will praise each one of them.

Now in this way those who are trusted with something valuable must show they are worthy of that trust.

My brothers and sisters, some people from Chloe’s family have told me quite plainly that there are quarrels among you.

So each of us will have to answer to God.

The Lord said, “Who is the wise and trusted servant that the master trusts to give the other servants their food at the right time?

“But God said to him, ‘Foolish man! Tonight your life will be taken from you. So who will get those things you have prepared for yourself?’

And I tell you that on the Judgment Day people will be responsible for every careless thing they have said.

“At the end of the day, the owner of the vineyard said to the boss of all the workers, ‘Call the workers and pay them. Start with the last people I hired and end with those I hired first.’

Jesus also said to his followers, “Once there was a rich man who had a manager to take care of his business. This manager was accused of cheating him.

The manager thought to himself, ‘What will I do since my master is taking my job away from me? I am not strong enough to dig ditches, and I am ashamed to beg.
