The synagogue leader was angry because Jesus healed on the Sabbath day. He said to the people, “There are six days when one has to work. So come to be healed on one of those days, and not on the Sabbath day.”

Work and get everything done during six days each week,

“You should work six days a week, but on the seventh day you must rest. This lets your ox and your donkey rest, and it also lets the slave born in your house and the foreigner be refreshed.

I also gave them my Sabbaths to be a sign between us so they would know that I am the Lord who made them holy.

You push with your side and with your shoulder, and you knock down all the weak sheep with your horns until you have forced them away.

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were very angry and discussed with each other what they could do to Jesus.

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees were watching closely to see if Jesus would heal on the Sabbath day so they could accuse him.

A man named Jairus, a leader of the synagogue, came to Jesus and fell at his feet, begging him to come to his house.

After the law of Moses and the writings of the prophets were read, the leaders of the synagogue sent a message to Paul and Barnabas: “Brothers, if you have any message that will encourage the people, please speak.”

Then they all grabbed Sosthenes, the leader of the synagogue, and beat him there before the court. But this did not bother Gallio.

Crispus was the leader of that synagogue, and he and all the people living in his house believed in the Lord. Many others in Corinth also listened to Paul and believed and were baptized.

I can say this about them: They really try to follow God, but they do not know the right way.
